If you're traveling from out of town, it would make the most sense to stay in Pittsburgh since Thursday, Sept 5 is the auction dinner and most people will drive to Laurel Valley the next day for 12:00 lunch and a 1:00 event start which should wrap up around 5:30 or so.

As far as efficiency goes, there is a nice clean hotel by the airport that might make sense for coming in and out -- the Courtyard Pittsburgh Airport Settlers Ridge located at 5100 Campbells Run Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15205 

If they’d like to enjoy the city, the Fairmont, Hotel Monaco, or William Penn are the three nicest options.
